Duxford Imperial War Museum.

Back in the summer, after our visit to London, we stopped off at Duxford Imperial War Museum, just off the M11. Here's just a few pictures of what was on display, as there really was an awful lot of it, and I have to say, it is well worth a visit if you're ever down that way. The Title of this post is Linked to the Duxford Site.

Remember the Airfix Cromwell tank on a damaged bridge set? Well here it was on a 1:1 scale..

As said, this is only a very small proportion of the exhibits... but then, I don't want to be spoiling your visit...
Regards,

Hi Peeler,
I was down at Duxford a few years ago with some friends at a modelling show (plastic models that is). Had a great couple of days. Hottest I have felt it in Britain! Nice pics.
Cheers

An additional bonus for Duxford is that it is set in the heartland of great East Anglian pubs and wonderful Suffolk ales.

They could do with a few more toilets though...

Paul, I'm so glad you qualified the "Modelling" bit.... :-)I think Duxford has its own micro environment, always seems warmand sunny there.
John, pubs, ale... that's my kind of language, and yes, it was a fair hike to the loos!

Ahem... At the risk of being seen as a girlie swot, the kit was not an Airfix Cromwell (they never did one), but the Matchbox Comet tank.

I shall expect my usual research fee for providing that information; a pint of Tetley's finest, in a plain brown envelope.

:-)

Ps, BTW, that Tiger I looks suspiciously NOT like a Tiger I at all.

A copy, methinks, using a Soviet tank chassis, but which one? The tracks look very T34-ish to me....

But lovely shots, peeler.... Very nice...

lol
I didn't want to be a girlie swat Poacher :-)

And was it the Sherman firefly on the broken bridge, how sad am I that I know that? The commet was a nice little kit. Duxford was great and hopefully I will make it down again sometime I think they had a B17 flying about when I was down if I remember?
What is the green Russian beast you have a pic of Peeler? looks like a JS2 turret but the hull looks unusual? JS3 hull?

Well heck!! Now you mention it, it WAS the matchbox kits that came with a bit of diarama, like a damaged bridge.. I think... and a Comet? You may well be right there too. I shall purchase said tetley's tonight, and post it earliest.
The Tiger 1... I would think it to be a remake too, not at all sure what it is based on though.
What!! It was a Sherman on the bridge? Oh, that's my memory just shredded. All I can say now is, it was a plastic model of a tank on a damaged bridge, made by Airfix or matchbox, or perhaps some other company. Phew!
As for the JS2/3... I DO NOT KNOW and I'm saying nowt!
Thanks both, I've had a right chuckle with this! And realised that my memory is getting worse... :-)

Hi Peeler,
Picked up some painted cops and civilians at a show last week to fight the zombies, we just have to knock some scenery together and we should have a little game on at the club. Will let you know how it turns out. The Tiger 1 was built on a T34 chassis. I think it was used in Band of Brothers if I remember right?

The Comet tank had a simple base with a shell hole and tank tracks, I recall.

The Comet was a lovely little kit...!

LOL! We need to rebuy all those kits, and then we'll know for sure what was what!
Now you mention it, I think there was something about Band of Brothers, so you may well be right.
It's no good, I'll just have to have another visit soonest, and make due notes at the time as opposed to trying to remember a few months later.. :-)
And look forward to seeing the Zombie game you're doing, be interested to see how it goes. Have you seen www.offensiveminiatures.com ..for riot police and rioters figures, don't know if they'd fit in with your game ideas?
